Call to Assist the Children in need

 As you are aware, our people who had been kept in ‘Internally Displaced Peoples’ (IDP) Camps in Vavuniya and Jaffna under adverse conditions, are now being brought to Jaffna to be settled in their own places.

 These people were not poor but rather made poor due to the wounds of the war. Together with their traumatic experience, they are also struggling to seek the means of earning their livelihood.

 I believe that St. Patrick’s College, stepping into its 160th year, has a moral duty to care for at least a few children returning from the IDP Camps. The college has already admitted 27 children (up to 19.10.2009) exempting from all payments. Among them five children are staying in the College Hostel fully taken care of by the College.

 At the request of several Old boys, we are venturing on a project to assist at least 25 children with full Hostel and tuition facilities.

 The Details of expenses for a student for an year are given below

 School Donation (on Admission)                                                25,000.00 (waived off)

 

Year payment (Fac. Fees, Welfare Fees, Diary, Sch. events, Exam fees)             3,000.00

Food & medical care (for 12 months) 4500/=per month                                    54,000.00

Clothing & other Amenities                                                                           4,000.00

Year payment for supervision @ 400/= per month                                            4,800.00

Accommodation Facilities (for initial year only)                                                 5,000.00

The Selection Criteria

1.      Students between Grades 6-10

2.      Loss of Father or Mother during the war (from 2007-2009)

3.      Pass  an Aptitude test

4.      Parents Income Level below 4,000/=

5.      Above average and keen interest in studies

6.      Involved in sports.

 This project is envisioned for 2 years only. It may be extended for another year if sponsors are willing. I am certain that this timely assistance rendered by the Patrician Family to our people in their time of dire need, will be gratefully remembered by each and every student who benefits from it.
